Attention deficit hyperactive disorder is the most common neurobehavioral disorder of childhood which affects about 4-12% of all school-age children and is also among the most prevalent chronic psychological condition affecting school-aged children. Hyperactivity, inattentiveness and impulsivity are the core behavioral characteristics of this disorder and are evident by the age of 7 years and should have a minimum duration of 6 months to be diagnosed as a disease. These symptoms have been associated with impaired academic performance, low self-esteem, negative occupational outcomes, lower adaptive functioning, social skills problems, aggressive and risky behaviors, and accidental injuries. It is estimated that around 60%–100% of children with ADHD also exhibit one or more comorbid disorders that often continue into adulthood.
