“AUM’ is the most commonly recited mantra, for spiritual or devotional practices and meditation. People have been practicing the chanting of this mantra since ancient times based on their knowledge and understanding of this eloquent sound. The benefits of this universal sound have been experienced by the sages all over India in every era. Aum is an omnipresent and universal sound that has always been chanted by millions of people to achieve the benefits associated with it.

Whereas, only a few have the true knowledge about the science behind this powerful mantra. According to the shastras, aumkar meditation is the highest form of meditation. Everything in this universe, including the universal consciousness, that is parmatma, the Individual consciousness that is the elements of life as well as the void, emerged out of this universal sound AUM.

Quantum science has discovered that the whole universe is vibrating on one powerful sound of “Aum”. This means, that with thorough practice, one can align with the Universal frequency and get united with the universal consciousness.

Studies have proved that AUMKAR chanting for 5 min increases parasympathetic nervous system activity which helps to induce relaxation and provide calmness. Aum chanting also affects the individuals’ perception to negative stimuli and helps the individuals to deal with the situation in a better way. This helps the patient to deal with pregnancy-related depression and can also be helpful in preventing the remission of such episodes.

Aumkar meditation along with yoga practice has been proven to be helpful in reducing pain and fear perception and has also improved vaginal delivery rates. Hence, the aim of this chapter is to give a brief overview of the benefits of aumkar meditation during pregnancy.
