Gestational weight gain usually follows a sigmoid curve. Approximately 5% of the total weight gain occurs during the first trimester of pregnancy and the remainder 95% is gradually gained per week during the second trimester and around 0.40 kg per week during the third trimester. Total weight gain is inversely related to maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index. An appropriate pregnancy weight gain is crucial for an infant’s growth and development. Therefore, it is crucial to calculate Gestational Weight Gain for Pregnant women in India. Recent findings reveal that Gestational weight gain is associated with several adverse perinatal outcomes including fetal growth, preterm delivery, cesarean delivery, gestational diabetes, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, and infant mortality as well as with long-term offspring metabolic health outcomes. The aim of this research is to investigate the possibilities of establishing quickly a Smart-Phone calculator for Optimal Gestational Weight Gain, especially for Indian Pregnant women.
