Shrimp holds a prominent position among the key products prioritized by the Indonesian government within the fisheries sector. This is because shrimp commodities contribute significantly to the country’s foreign exchange, with Litopenaeus vannamei and Penaeus monodon being the prominent species known throughout the country. Indonesia’s shrimp export statistics recorded 149,500 tons of frozen shrimp in 2019. In 2017, Indonesia produced 919,988 tons of shrimp, making it the second-largest shrimp producer after China. Indonesian shrimp commodities come from aquaculture (70%) and marine capture (30%). Shrimp products are exported in three forms: fresh, shell-on frozen, and processed, but only frozen and processed products have significant export value.
